Pop Up Shop

A unique opportunity for entrepreneurs

This is a unique opportunity for budding entrepreneurs who might have thought about opening their own shop but may not have been in a position to do so. The shop provides a low cost retail space for start-up businesses to test their ideas for a short-term period.

The Egg Pop Up Shop in Braintree is aimed at giving new businesses an opportunity to trial their exciting ideas whilst getting a real taste of the retail environment, without the risks and costs associated with a long term lease.

Every 12 weeks the business in the pop up shop will change and this initiative will run for at least a year.

How is the initiative funded?

£15,000 from Braintree’s successful Portas Pilot bid has been allocated to this initiative.

What do I get?

We are offering a retail unit for a period of 12 weeks in Braintree town centre at a substantially subsidised rate. This space will be let to successful candidates for £75 per week, which will include rent, business rates, utilities and building insurance. The tenant will be responsible for their own public, product liability insurance and contents insurance. The shop will come fully equipped with lighting, power, a counter, till, basic shelving and a clothing rail (if required) – so you will have everything you need to get started.

In addition you will also receive assistance with branding and marketing from Braintree District Council and business support from Ignite Business Enterprise Limited. Business support will be in the form of weekly meetings, monthly reviews and up skilling sessions, crisis counselling and support if required, an opportunity to attend any business courses that are run by ignite, free of charge, during your term in the shop and exit planning guidance and support when your term in the shop is nearing completion.
